NCEC Chair Liliia Malion holds bilateral meeting with the Leadership of Iceland's Electronic Communications Office (ECOI)
During the bilateral meeting, the parties discussed regulatory issues in the field of electronic communications, shared challenges, and the critical importance of ensuring the resilience and sustainability of telecom infrastructure, as well as the further development of bilateral cooperation between the NCEC and ECOI.
There are many similarities between our countries and regulators. Iceland’s experience is particularly valuable as it demonstrates how, despite challenging geographic and climatic conditions, it is possible to ensure connectivity in remote areas, provide mobile coverage along roads (given the large distances between settlements), and implement digital regulatory tools effectively.
In addition, Iceland is among the countries that support temporarily displaced Ukrainians, creating favorable conditions for our citizens. Currently, more than 5,000 Ukrainians are registered in Iceland.
We are grateful to Iceland for its continued support and value our cooperation with ECOI — both bilaterally and within the BEREC framework.
Background:
