Universal Postal Union
The Universal Postal Union (UPU) is an intergovernmental organization that works to ensure and improve postal services worldwide. The UPU is the main global forum for cooperation in the postal sector and is one of the oldest international organizations. It unites member countries into a single postal territory with standardized international postal rates. The organization’s headquarters are located in Bern, Switzerland. It was founded in 1874 and became a specialized agency of the United Nations in 1947.
The UPU has 192 member countries. Its main governing body is the Congress, where all members meet every four years to determine global postal strategy and establish new rules for postal exchange.
The UPU continuously works to create an efficient network that provides modern postal products and logistics services. It classifies postal products, monitors the quality of global postal services, and collaborates with supply chains. The UPU also supports member countries in organizing their addressing systems to ensure accurate and timely mail delivery.
The NCEC cooperates with the UPU on matters related to the development of the postal sector and international collaboration.
